In today's modern world it is not unusual for our families to get pets. Whether they are from another country, another breed of animal or even a domestic cat, pets can be very useful in many ways. Some people like to have a small dog or a cat for their protection, some like to have a dog as a hunting companion and others like to have a large dog to protect their family. Pets can come in many sizes, so it's important that you choose the one that's right for you.

A pet, or domesticated animal is an animal which has been trained to live within a home, community or society as a work, domestic, livestock or laboratory animal and not for pleasure or sport. Pets are often animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, fish and lizards. In some countries, including the United States, cats and dogs can be taken into the army for protection.

Before you decide to get a pet it is a good idea to think about whether you want an animal for its beauty and its intelligence or whether you want it purely for pleasure and play. For example, if you are going to get a small dog to play with your children then you may want a larger dog for protection and amusement.

It's also a good idea to choose a pet based on its age. If you choose a young child to get a dog because they are small, you may want to look into whether the dog has had regular training in order to deal with children and also have any previous behavior issues worked out before getting the pet. On the other hand, if you choose an adult for a pet based on its size and intelligence, then you may need to consider whether the pet has some specific needs such as being able to cope with certain environments, whether the pet requires a lot of exercise, or whether the pet is easily distracted by other pets or people in the area.

As well as thinking about your personality, you will also want to consider what kind of environment you want for your pets. Are you looking to have a dog or cat or will you prefer a bird or lizard to be around your children. Once you have decided on the type of environment you need your pet to live in you will need to decide on how long it is going to take to care for your pets.

If you want to care for your pet for your pet's longer, you should find out about the requirements for a pet foster and which pet foster agencies will accept your pets. You may also want to decide on whether you want to have your pet a home permanently or temporarily while you're away on holiday.

In addition to deciding how long your pet will stay you should also think about what the best way to look after your pet when you're not there. Will you want to keep the pet inside your home for your kids to play with, will you want your pet to be in an isolated location, will you want your pet to go to a boarding kennel or foster centre and what sort of food would you prefer? Just because your pet is a pet doesn't mean you should neglect the basic needs for your pet and if you don't have enough space for your pet, you need to think about where you can house your pet.

If you are looking for a new pet then it's important that you get an adult or experienced breeder to help you look after your pets. Not only do you want a knowledgeable breeder but you also need a breeder who is willing to work with you to look after your pet.
